Over time, in the ancient Indian times, they had lots of different writing systems. The first ever thing written was developed in the Indus Valley around 2600 B.C. Later on in the years, Indian scripts like Brahmi and Kharosthi were advanced to write both official and local languages. They mostly kept their records on stone and wrote everything on stone. They didn't necessarily have (alphabetic) letters like we do in modern times (America). They usually have symbols and pictures for their writing systems.
